Trial Dr. Michael Jackson postponed until September

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The trial of Michael Jackson's doctor related to her death on Monday was postponed until September at the request of defense lawyers.
A week before the scheduled start of the opening statements, the judge overseeing the case gave the defense attorneys an extra week to find and prepare expert witnesses in medicine.

Opening statements in the trial of Dr. Conrad Murray had been scheduled for May 9 and was in motion the process of jury selection.

Murray pleaded not guilty to manslaughter singer's "Thriller", who died in June 2009 as a result of an overdose of the powerful anesthetic propofol.

Last week, prosecutors said they would call another medical expert to refute what the arguments are expected to be Murray's defense team, which may indicate that the pop star self-administered propofol.

Murray's lawyers said they needed more preparation time to examine the new witness.

propofol Murray admitted giving Jackson as a sleep aid while the artist was preparing for a comeback tour, but denies that the dose was lethal.

The doctor was with Jackson when the artist of 50 years died on June 25, 2009 in a rented home in Los Angeles.

of the physician's defense team requested a delay of two weeks, but the Supreme Court Judge Michael Pastor Los Angeles opted for a longer time to ensure that all outstanding issues are resolved.

The new trial date is scheduled for September 8.
"The court is well aware of judicial efficiency and costs have occurred. But first and foremost is justice, "said Pastor.

Murray accepted the delay. The charge of manslaughter accused the doctor of being too lax in the care of Jackson and that this resulted in his death.
Now, he says, also used the argument of the alleged cocaine the "King of Pop".
If convicted, Murray could happen up to four years in prison.
